pdf Results of a regional tectonic model building concerning the zone of the Pre-Ural trough (Volga-Ural petroleum province)
The results of geological and geophysical interpretation of new and retrospective regional seismic profiles are presented. This makes it possible to significantly elucidate the understanding of the structure and oil and gas potential of sedimentary cover within the Pre-Ural trough of the Volga-Ural petroleum province. Faults of various configurations and genesis have been traced and mapped. Interpretation of seismic data shows the widespread development of both ancient and recent faults, which were formed under conditions of subsidence and extension of the sedimentary cover. In an environment of lateral compression and shear in the Permian time, reverse faults, thrusts, strike-slip faults and associated plicative structures were formed. Based on the refined structural-tectonic model, new exploration targets for oil and gas are predicted.
