| Lithotypes of rocks and geochemistry of organic matter of the Lower Carboniferous terrigenous section of the southern part of the Chernyshev Ridge | |
| The northern territories of the European part of Russia are frequently of great interest in terms of several formations studying and finding of new hydrocarbon accumulations. We have identified the lithotypes of rocks in the section, analyzed the thickness and petroleum source properties of the Tournaisian-Visean strata in the south of the Chernyshev Ridge of the Timan-Pechora petroleum province. The geochemical studies of the organic matter of the rock structures made it possible to clarify its composition and degree of maturity, to assess the hydrocarbon potential of oil and gas source rocks. The results of additional geochemical studies of rocks and bitumoids showed that the initial organic matter of terrigenous rocks accumulated in similar coastal-marine conditions, but the composition of organic matter was somewhat different. To date, the degree of transformation of organic matter corresponds to the beginning of the "oil window" phase, which suggests the possibly formation of oil hydrocarbons in these territories and the discovery of new oil accumulations in overlying reservoirs.
