pdf Building of the complicated seismogeological model of probable Callovian reservoirs within the Eastern Sulak swell of the Middle Caspian Sea area
The purpose of this study was a detailed analysis of Callovian strata to identify the eventually zones of reservoir within the studied structure N, located of the southwestern part of the Middle Caspian Sea area. The implementation of this activity was complicated by a number of seismogeological problems: a drop in the resolution of seismic data at a considerable depth, a strong background of multiples from contrasting overlying boundaries, as well as the thinness and shortness of low-contrast reservoirs in the studied interval. Under such complicated conditions, a detailed interpretation technique was used, which included a sequence stratigraphic analysis, a conceptual model of sedimentation, a phase-by-phase referencing of each reflection, tracking the tied boundaries within the studied structure, calculating attributes based on the results of synchronous seismic inversion, and combining the results. The reservoirs are confined to bar bodies according to the field description of the core and the analysis of logging facies in the Callovian strata of the Middle Caspian Sea area.
It was found that the studied strata presumably form an estuarine bar based on the methods of identifying bar bodies according to well logging data together with an analysis of the nature of the wave pattern within the J2s80 sequence.
The assumption of an elongated shape of the bar body was confirmed as a result of the analysis of the geometry and elastic parameters of the accumulative body of the J2s80 sequence in different directions. It was found that the studied mouth bar is characterized by a southeast strike. Three zones of predominant litology are distinguished: siltstones, transitional siltstone-argillaceous and clays according to the proposed lithofacies scheme. The siltstone-dominated zone corresponds to lower acoustic impedance values and increased sequence thicknesses.
A detailed study of the Callovian strata according to the described method made it possible to forecast favorable zones that were not discovered by existing wells.
