pdf  Evolution of the Upper Devonian epicontinental carbonate platform, Umetovsko-Linevian depression, Lower Povolzhiye
The mechanism of epicontinental carbonate platform development and evolution in such a tectonic setting is presented, and special emphasis is placed on the syntectonic sedimentation during the Frasnian to Famenian. The environments and structure of sedimentation in the Umetovsko-Linevian depression area have been controlled by the dominant tendency to subsiding of the PreCaspian depression including the near-flank zone at all the stages of this territory development. Three main evolution phases are defined during the Frasnian to Famenian. The cyclic (transgressive-regressive) character of sedimentation is marked in the majority of facies, in this case optimum conditions for intensive carbonate accumulation existed during the regressive phases of the progressively developing carbonate platform. The depositional sequences were formed largely through the sea level fluctuations and the effect of regional tectonic activity, which may have probably been superimposed on a long-term eustatic cycle
