pdf  On the classification of petroleum accumulations
The genesis and form of petroleum traps are advisable to be taken into account when solving exploration issues. The paper presents a morphogenetic classification based on an analysis of more than 1,200 petroleum accumulations on the onshore and on the offshore areas of Russia and foreign countries. The base classification element is the class of deposits, which are subdivided into three major groups - structural, lithogenetic and combined. The proposed classification determines both search criteria and methodology for further evaluation and to a lesser extent exploration.
