pdf Hydrocarbon molecular markers in bottom sediments of focused fluid discharge zones of Lake Baikal
The detailed research of the dispersed organic matter of Lake Baikal bottom sediments including analysis of hydrocarbon molecular markers – n-alkanes, isoprenoids, terpanes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been carried out. The distribution of homologues of n-alkanes and their ratios in bottom sediments of the Posol bank-2, where mud breccias, gas-hydrates (bottom stations St1GT3, St1GT8) and authigenic carbonates (St1GT3) were detected, has shown an input of the highly transformed organic matter to the surface sediments likely due to the erosion and redeposition of sediments of the last glacial maximum extension age. Molecular composition of dispersed organic matter of the Ostrov site sediments (St3GC4) attested to the normal type of deposition not influenced by migration processes. Increased values of С12-С21 n-alkanes with an even maximum at С16 have been detected in sediments of station St18GC6 collected near the thermogenic methane seep (Kedr mud volcano), and together with the presence of the low transformed hopane structures (hop-17(21)-enes and hop-13(18)-enes) can testify to the methanotrophic and concomitant chemoorganotrophic microorganisms development in sediments.

Keywords: dispersed organic matter, bottom sediments, hydrocarbon molecular markers, gas-hydrates, methane, focused fluid discharge, mud volcano, Lake Baikal.

pdf  Molecular geochemistry of organic matter and petroleum generation potential of the Upper Paleozoic rocks belonging to the Pre-Taimyr uplift zone
Studies of organic matter from the Upper Paleozoic sequences were carried out for the first time using complex of modern organic geochemistry (GC-MS) methods. Samples were obtained from outcrop in the junction zone with the Siberian Basin folded Taimyr. Bituminological analysis and distribution of hydrocarbon biomarkers allowed determining the composition, conditions of formation and the level of thermal maturity of organic mater. The impact of dynamocatagenesis on the activation of primary migration led to the appearance of epigenic hydrocarbons in the Permian sections. The source of which may be either the underlying rocks of the Lower Carboniferous other the adjacent Jurassic rocks of hydrocarbons the Mesozoic-Cenozoic megacomplex. The source rocks quality determined in samples collected only from outcrops is moderate but that does not exclude petroleum prospects in this areas as a whole.

Keywords: organic matter, Upper Paleozoic deposits, hydrocarbons biomarkers, petroleum potential, Pre-Taimyr uplift zone.

pdf  Hydrocarbons in bottom sediments of the Shtokman area – distribution, genesis, temporal trends
The study of the composition, distribution and genesis of hydrocarbons in the components of the geological environment of water areas allows solving tasks of the forecast of oil and gas potential of mineral resources and at the same time provides a basis for future environmental monitoring in exploration and mining operations. The major geochemical parameters of dispersed organic matter are identified on the basis of long-term study of Late Quaternary sediments of the South-Barents depression. Studies have shown that the organic-geochemical background of Holocene Quaternary sediments of the Shtokmanarea formed due to the sedimentation flux of sedimentary material and possible endogenous influence, which determines the specificity of the local anomaly content and composition of dispersed organic matter. This results in high content of aromatic hydrocarbons and polyarenes and organic carbon, but in the absence of its correlation with particle size of bottom sediments. The composition of the hydrocarbon molecular markers indicates the enriched upper part of the sedimentary section by components of thermal mature dispersed organic matter that can be caused by emissions from point discharge of gas fluid of sedimentary rocks of the lower stratigraphic horizons and/or seeping migration.
