pdf  On the typification of LEPIDOPTERIS OTTONIS (GOPPERT) SCHIMPER, 1869 (PTERIDOSPERMAE, CYCADOFILICALES)
The results of research on clarifying the specific characteristics and typification of widespread in Late Triassic floras of Eurasia L. ottonis (Goppert) Schimper, typical for the genus Lepidopteris of that time, have been presented. The leaves remains of this genus were first found in the Upper Triassic deposits of Southern Germany. The holotype of the genus - L. Stuttgartiensis of the Middle Keuper (Upper Carney) deposits of the Stuttgart environs and the type specimens of the kind L. ottonis of the Upper Keuper (Rot) – Lower Jurassic of Franconia and the Rot of Silesia (western Poland) do not possess epidermal characteristics. The Lepidopteris leaves remains of the Franconia Rot deposits (Koburg mountain environs, Southern Germany), presented by Dr. Kelber, enable us to investigate the epidermal characteristics of L. ottonis (Goppert) Schimper leaves by specimens from type locality.
Key words: Southern Germany, strata-locality, Upper Triassic, Rot, holotype, type specimens, epidermal characteristics.
